Spelling reform

Over the centuries, the French language has evolved considerably, and its spelling has undergone several reforms.

Since 1990, the spelling reform approved by the French Academy was never actually followed .
In the next school year , teachers will implement this reform in the books of schools : 2,400 common words will be changed, or 4% of our current lexicon.

 

Here are 10 words that change in 2016

Before, you could write

Now, we must write

Dictée-après

Forget dashes, oignon loses its “i” and nénuphar gets an “f”..

First victim of this cleansing : the circumflex “^”.

It will gradually disappear.

The French language is a living language and by definition it is a language that evolves.

If we read the texts dating from the XVI century , you would be suprised of the spelling of certain words!

But we are a bit tradionnalist and this makes us sick at heart…
